  1. The new Outlook just gained several features, including multiple offline functions. Microsoft's controversial new Outlook app has a major update. If you're on the latest version of the app, you'll be able to access Copilot Pro or use AI credits through a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription. The app now supports email coaching with Copilot and several new features as well. The June 2025 update for the new Outlook adds support for replying and forwarding emails in a .pst file, moving emails between accounts, and searching for folders while offline. Microsoft also added the ability to add shared folders to Favorites within the new Outlook. If you're not a fan of Copilot in Outlook, you can disable the tool through Outlook's Copilot control page. All of the changes to Outlook are improvements, but I doubt they'll be enough to convert those who dislike the web-based app. Below is the full change log from Microsoft. What's new in new Outlook for Windows Sharing Copilot in Outlook When logged into Outlook with an account that has access to Copilot Pro or AI credits through a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, Copilot features will be available for all connected email accounts. This includes Outlook.com, Hotmail.com, Live.com, MSN.com, and third-party providers such as Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud, as long as they are logged into Outlook on the same device. Reply and forward emails in a PST file With this update of support for .pst files (also known as Outlook Data File) in the new Outlook for Windows, users will be able to reply and forward emails in a .pst file. Future releases of new Outlook will expand the support for .pst file capabilities. Move emails between accounts Consumer users can now seamlessly move emails between their personal accounts, streamlining organization and productivity. For Enterprise users, this feature is off by default and is controlled by a policy managed by administrators. By enabling this policy, admins can grant their users the ability to move emails between accounts in a way that aligns with organizational needs and policies. Offline "Days of email to save" expanded to 30 days The default mail sync window in offline mode has been expanded from 7 days to 30 days. Offline search folders Search folders, which help users group emails based on certain criteria, are now available while offline. Undo send while offline The ability to cancel an email message after you've selected Send is now supported offline. Add shared folders to Favorites We're thrilled to announce that you can now add shared folders to your Favorites. This enhancement offers increased flexibility and convenience, allowing easy access to important shared content directly from your Favorites list. External tag in contact suggestions An External tag will be added to contact suggestions that appear in the dropdown when entering contacts in the email compose form. Disable Copilot in Outlook To disable Copilot, open the Settings window and visit the Copilot > Copilot control page. From there, you can switch the Turn on Copilot control off. Why I hate the new Outlook Microsoft made the Mail & Calendar app inoperable earlier this year. (Image credit: Windows Central) The cliché goes, "Actions speak louder than words." Microsoft's actions say the tech giant does not care about native apps on Windows 11. The built-in video editor that ships with Windows 11 is a web app, as is the new version of Outlook. I admit that some web apps are fine on Windows 11, but I still prefer a nice native app over a wrapped website. The new Outlook is now forced onto Windows 10 and ships with Windows 11 despite being worse in several ways compared to Mail & Calendar. The new Outlook is slower than Mail & Calendar, has issues with notifications, and takes up significantly more RAM than the app it replaces. I should clarify that Mail & Calendar was better than the new Outlook. Microsoft has since dropped support for Mail & Calendar and the app can no longer send or receive emails. Our Senior Editor Zac Bowden said it best when explaining why the new Outlook is not ready for prime time: "That’s probably because it’s not a Windows app, it’s a web app. For whatever reason, Microsoft thinks it’s okay for the default Windows mailing experience to be no better than a [glorified] website. When I compare this experience to the clean and lightweight one of Apple Mail on the Mac, or Samsung Mail on a Galaxy Tablet, it’s simply no contest. Those apps are easier to use, smoother to navigate, and faster too." Microsoft has shipped several updates since Bowden's editorial was published, but the core issues he raised remain. I don't hate the interface of the new Outlook as much as some do, but I miss the native performance of Mail & Calendar. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 2. Despite widespread criticism, Microsoft has remained focused on replacing the classic Outlook for Windows with the new web-based Outlook app for everyone. Every month, Microsoft releases updates to the new Outlook app based on user feedback. Today, Microsoft released the June 2025 update for Outlook for Windows with several improvements, including some of the most requested features by Outlook users. With this latest update, Microsoft has improved support for .pst (Outlook Data File) files. You can now reply to and forward emails in a stored .pst file. Microsoft is also working on further improving support for .pst files in the new Outlook for Windows. If you're using the new Outlook app with your personal Microsoft account that has access to Copilot Pro or AI credits through a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, Copilot features will now be available even for other personal email accounts configured in the Outlook app. This Copilot sharing feature works with email addresses such as Outlook.com, Hotmail.com, Live.com, MSN.com, and third-party providers like Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud. Microsoft has also added the ability to easily move emails between personal accounts. This feature is disabled by default for enterprise users, but admins can enable it if needed. With this update, Microsoft has increased the default mail sync window in offline mode from 7 days to 30 days. Additionally, you can now access search folders and cancel an email after selecting Send in offline mode. This new update also brings email coaching support through Copilot. Copilot can now suggest adjustments to tone, clarity, and reader sentiment before you hit Send. If you are annoyed with Copilot, you can now disable Copilot completely by going to the Copilot > Copilot control page in the Settings window. In this release, Microsoft has added the ability to add shared folders to your Favorites, making it easier to access content directly from the Favorites list. Finally, an "External" tag will be added to external contact suggestions that appear in the dropdown menu when entering contacts in the email compose form, helping you distinguish between your organization's and external contacts. 3. Microsoft made a major Windows 10-related change in regard to Microsoft 365 support. The company quietly extended M365 apps support on the OS till 2028. We are not sure what exactly made Microsoft change its mind, but some big pending changes have not gone through yet. For example, the unified management of the M365 apps like Teams and Outlook has been put "on hold" for now. Microsoft originally planned for a general availability (GA) rollout for July 2024. Another "major change" has been delayed and rescheduled too. Back in November 2024, Microsoft announced that it was altering the way New Outlook for Windows and Outlook for the Web with changes to a couple of its policy parameters. The tech giant had informed that the "OWAEnabled" policy parameter would no longer be checked going forward and only the "OneWinNativeOutlookEnabled" will be checked for accessing mailboxes. You can find the full details about it in its dedicated article. The rollout was expected to start by January 2025 and finish by February 2025, but that has not happened, and as such, the company has provided an updated timeline on the Microsoft 365 Admin Center portal. It writes: Those who have access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center portal can view the message under ID MC922623. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 4. Back in December last year, 2024, Microsoft announced via the Microsoft 365 admin center that Enterprise users would be switched over to the New Outlook for Windows from Classic Outlook in April of 2026. At the time, the company also informed via a support article that Business plan users running the Current Channel would also be gradually made to switch over to the New Outlook. In the article, Microsoft stated: More clarity was provided later as it wrote: Following that, recently, Microsoft made a change to the deployment guidance for New Outlook for Windows. Neowin noticed while browsing that the tech giant has begun including the New Outlook app by default on new Microsoft 365 (M365) deployments, although it is giving admins the option to include both New and Classic Outlooks, or just one of them. Microsoft explains: If you are wondering, version 2502 of Microsoft 365 Apps was released on the current channel earlier this month on March 5, and the size of the update was around 60 MB. The latest build available for version 2502 is 18526.20168. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. Thank you for appreciating my time and effort posting news every day for many years. 5. Microsoft is planning to automatically switch Enterprise users of Microsoft 365 over to the New Outlook for Windows app in April 2026. It already stopped supporting legacy Outlook clients earlier this year. However, long-time Classic Outlook users have not been the most thrilled about the experience, and that is mainly because they feel the New Outlook app is lacking in terms of feature support. Thankfully, Microsoft is aware of the shortcomings and has already confirmed that it is improving New Outlook operations when an internet connection is unavailable. Multiple new features are being tested, with the latest addition being planned for early 2025. Aside from better offline mode support, Microsoft is also working on adding PST support on the New Outlook for Windows as well as Outlook for Mac. In fact, the company has already rolled out what it refers to as the "first phase of PST support," and it is described under feature ID 399467 on the Microsoft 365 roadmap. It writes: For those wondering, PST or Personal Storage Table is an open proprietary Microsoft file format that is used to import or export Outlook data like email messages, contacts, calendar items, tasks, and notes. The PST files are archived or saved on a user's PC. Microsoft also has plans to add PST support on Outlook for Mac since, much like Windows, the feature is currently only supported by the legacy Mac app. This feature was expected to start rolling out in November, but that has not happened. Under feature ID 405754, the company says: Similar to what PST files are for Outlook for Windows, OLM files carry data on Outlook for Mac. Finally, the latest PST-related addition was made earlier this month under feature ID 473995 and with this, more capabilities are coming to the app. Microsoft writes: The rollout of the above is expected in January of next year when a major Microsoft 365 app UI update is also planned. 6. About a week ago, Microsoft announced that it would automatically start switching Microsoft 365 Enterprise users over to the New Outlook for Windows in April 2026. It already stopped supporting legacy Outlook clients earlier this year. However, many of those who are a fan of Classic Outlook are still having a hard time moving on from it. Many feel the new app just is not as good as the classic application and the lack of some useful features is something they complain about. One such aspect is offline mode support, ie, using and working on the New Outlook for Windows without an active internet connection, and Microsoft will soon be adding another new feature to improve this area of the software. The company has published a new entry earlier this week on the Microsoft 365 roadmap which confirms a new feature for offline mode. After this update, users will be able to open and save attachment files from an email even when they are offline. The entry says: The feature was added under ID 472026 and Microsoft expects the feature to roll out in January 2025. This is around the same time when the company is replacing its Microsoft Copilot with Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat plus a new logo. Aside from this, Microsoft had also announced a couple of other Outlook offline features that will certainly be welcomed by users. First, the ability to launch the app without an internet connection was also added, and this was followed by offline email synchronisation. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 7. Earlier today, we reported about an upcoming change Microsoft is bringing to the enablement/disablement of New Outlook for Windows and Outlook for the web policies. While the New Outlook for Windows app is obviously newer, a lot of users, including many Neowin readers, have expressed disappointment and annoyance about it as they feel Classic Outlook outclasses the New Outlook in terms of feature set, even as the latter is starting to get some much needed key features like better offline mode, personal non-MSA support, and more. A Reddit user has discovered a way to disable, or rather bypass, the installation of the New Outlook for Windows app on PCs. It is relatively simple, too, and simply involves tricking the Microsoft Store and Windows into believing you are eventually going to install the application even though you don't intend to and just want to keep it hanging. The Redditor Commercial_Use6316 explains how it works: Hence, essentially, the trick involves keeping the Microsoft Store download manager in an infinite install loop simply by pausing the app's installation. However, like any bypass trick, this may not work forever, and Microsoft may soon patch this loop. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 8. Microsoft often lists upcoming Microsoft 365 changes on its roadmap where it tests such features before broader deployment. However, some changes do not require testing and are only published directly on the Microsoft 365 Message Center dashboard such that IT and system administrators can become aware of it. One such change is coming to Outlook. The tech giant has informed that the "OWAEnabled" policy parameter will no longer be checked going forward and only the "OneWinNativeOutlookEnabled" will be checked for accessing mailboxes. For those who are not familiar, a check on the OWAEnabled parameter implies that the Outlook Web App (OWA), which is the former name of Outlook for the Web, is enabled by default. Thus with the check gone, this will no longer be the case. The rollout of this change starts in late January 2025 and Microsoft hopes to complete it by the middle of next month in February 2025. The message says: You can find the post on the Microsoft 365 Admin Center under message ID MC922623 (via Modern Workspace Pro). Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 9. Recently, Microsoft has made a bunch of new feature additions to the New Outlook for Windows to make it more useful offline without an internet connection. It announced a much-improved email sync after confirming the app would be able to launch offline. Offline mode improvements aren't the only thing the New Outlook is getting. Microsoft clearly seems to understand that users are probably still not as happy with its shiny, new app as they are with Classic Outlook. Hence, the company is bringing another major change to New Outlook. The app will soon gain support for personal non-Microsoft accounts. This will allow users to access any Microsoft 365 (Office 365) and Copilot Pro subscriptions, that they have linked to their personal email, on the New Outlook for Windows app. Microsoft says the rollout of the feature should start next month, mid-November, with general availability and rollout completion planned for mid-December 2024 and mid-January 2025 respectively. In a Microsoft 365 Message Center post, the company has described the upcoming change. It explains: When setting up an account, a new "Additional Microsoft accounts" option is being added under the "Your accounts" section in the New Outlook app. The Your accounts section essentially helps manage the various email accounts that have been added to the app: You can find this post in Microsoft 365 Admin Center dashboard with message ID MC915492. 10. Microsoft, recently, has been making an active effort to make the New Outlook for Windows better. The company has been improving the offline usability of the app so that it can at least do the basics without needing to connect to the internet. The app will finally launch offline and will also do better email syncing. At the same time, the tech giant understands that the Outlook calendar feature is useful and is thus carrying it over to Teams as well. Aside from these changes, Microsoft has also confirmed that Outlook is getting a bunch of new themes as well as support for custom AI themes that can be made with the aid of Copilot. On the Microsoft 365 roadmap entry under feature ID 394682, it writes: You can also find information related to the above on the Microsoft 365 Admin Center under Message ID: MC912174. Aside from custom AI theme support, Outlook is also getting four new "Modern" themes. The company has added the entry under feature ID 417004 on the Microsoft 365 roadmap. The upcoming themes will work on both Outlook for Windows and the Outlook Web app. However, at the moment, there are no additional details on what these modern themes will be like. The entry states: As per the roadmap entries, the general availability rollout for both modern themes, as well as Copilot-based themes, will start next month. 11. Back in September 2023, Microsoft revealed that it was adding certain features to the New Outlook for Windows app that would work without an internet connection. At the time, the company introduced offline support for mail actions and compose. At the time, the company had hinted that more offline features would be added in future updates, as it stated, "The first set of offline capabilities in the new Outlook for Windows. Mail, calendar events, and contacts will be stored on your device, so you can view them even when you're not connected to the internet." For some reason, though, the ability to locally store Mail, calendar events, and contacts was delayed until the company finally reiterated it earlier this year in June. However, Microsoft never really disclosed why the release date was pushed back. That was not the only offline New Outlook feature Microsoft pushed back though. The company had also delayed another one which is related to email sync that will let users choose the number of days of email and attachments they want to download to their device for offline usage. The feature was initially added to the Microsft 365 roadmap towards the end of November last year under feature ID 189809 and the rollout was planned for June this year. That did not happen and Microsoft updated the entry with the same feature under the new ID 412619. It says: However, the delay does make sense given that the feature would be useless unless a user was able to launch the New Outlook app offline. Microsoft has finally started working on such a feature and we covered it recently in our dedicated piece here. Microsoft says the preview for the new offline email sync feature would be available towards the end of this year in December and the rollout would start in January 2025. With these two new features, the New Outlook for Windows it seems is finally getting to the Classic Outlook level. The latter for example, allows syncing emails for offline usage for 12 months by default but there is also the option to store "All" mails.
