Windows 11 gets emergency KB5062170 patch to fix errors when installing recent updates
Karlston posted a news in Software News
If your Windows 11 PC runs version 23H2 or 22H2, you might need to download a new emergency update. KB5062170, with build numbers 22621.5415 and 22631.5415, is now available for download from the Microsoft Update Catalog. It contains a single fix for the bug causing errors when attempting to install last month's security update (KB5058405). Microsoft acknowledged the bug with failing security updates a few days ago. The company confirmed that certain systems might experience a recovery error with the 0xc0000098 code when installing KB5058405 or the May 2025 security update for versions 23H2 and 22H2. Affected systems would show the following message: "Your PC/Device needs to be repaired. The operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File: ACPI.sys. Error code: 0xc0000098" In the release notes, Microsoft adds that KB5062170 is not required on systems that installed KB5058405 without issues. Also, it is only available via the Microsoft Update Catalog, not Windows Update. You need to download KB5062170 only if your computer experiences the ACPI.sys error with code 0xc0000098. Another thing worth adding is that the out-of-band update is cumulative, which means there is no need to install any previously released updates. KB5062170 will bring all the previously released fixes and patches, including those in the May 2025 security update. Like the May 2025 update for Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2, KB5062170 has a single known issue. It affects Noto fonts in Chromium-based browsers (Microsoft Edge, Opera, Vivaldi, Chrome, etc.) when the system scaling is set to 100%. Microsoft recommends increasing the scaling to 125% or 150% as a temporary measure while the company works on a resolution. You can download KB5062170 from the Microsoft Update catalog using this link. The update is not available in Windows Update. The official support article can be found here. Windows 11 23H2 and 22H2 get KB5050092 with taskbar, File Explorer improvements, and more
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Following the release of non-security updates for Windows 11 version 24H2 and Windows 10 version 22H2, Microsoft pushed this month's c-updates for those using Windows 11 version 22H2 and 23H2. The update is now available as an optional release in Windows Update under KB5050092. Here are the changes that Microsoft is rolling out gradually: And here is what is rolling out in normal mode: Known issues in this update include bugs with OpenSSH and compatibility issues with Citrix software (both have workarounds). You can download KB5050092 from Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog. Since the update does not contain security updates, you can skip it and wait for next month's mandatory Patch Tuesday updates. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. Karlston posted a news in Software News
If you are a Windows 11 user but your system is not yet on version 24H2, which just received its November 2024 non-security update, you can still get a lot of fixes and some new features in a fresh update. This month's non-security update (also known as C-update) is now available for Windows 11 version 23H2 and 22H2 (Enterprise and Education users only) under KB5046732 with build numbers 22621.4541 and 22631.4541. KB5046732 does not include security patches, which means it is not mandatory, and you can skip it. Here are the changes that are rolling out gradually: "Normal rollout" changes (those that are available right away for all) include these two: And here are the rest of the improvements and fixes in KB5046732: As usual, you can download KB5046732 for Windows 11 23H2 from Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog. As a reminder, Windows 10 and 11 will not receive optional updates in December due to minimal operations during the holiday season. Look out for the next non-security update (or don't) in January 2025. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post.
